Ayurveda - the eternal science..1

Ayurveda is a biological science or in other words ‘the science of life’. It comprises of two words - ‘ayuh’ meaning life and ‘veda’ meaning science. The life includes life process and living state.
Acharya Susrutha defines ayurveda as –

“Aayurasmin vidyate, anena vaa ayurvindanti iti ayurveda |”

The term Ayurveda may be interpreted as a science in which the knowledge of life exists or which helps to enjoy a longer duration of life.
Uniqueness of this system is its holistic approach to life that has centered on the nature and its rhythms. One can trace its origin to antiquity. It literally means the science of life. Ancient people believed that the life is a mixed bag of experiences, which are wholesome, unwholesome, happy and sorrowful. Ayurveda is defined as a science that reveals what is appropriate and as well auspicious for a happy and long life. It is both an art and a science that has evolved by a quest continued over millennia for the relief from suffering or disease in mankind. Suffering is a disease and happiness is health.
