THE RAINY SEASON

Broadly speaking, there are four seasons in a year. Summer , rainy , winter and autumn. Summer season means hot months. Rainy season brings after the heat of the summer. Then comes the winter season of cold months. It is followed by autumn when fall off leaves of the trees and replace them with new ones. While people in the cities do not like the rainy season, it is very important for the agriculturists. While in cities it brings relief from the heat of the summer, for the peasants and agriculturists it is a blessing as their crops depend upon it. For agriculturists living in villages it is a harbinger, messenger of rain with a ray of hope for better crop.

Rainy season is a mixed blessing. If the rains are sufficient, it means good crops and abundance of production of foodstuff, plenty of food for cattle and increased quantity of milk for the nation. There is greenery all around & dry lands are covered with green grass. There is no dearth (want) of water for irrigation purpose. The- ponds, lakes, rivers, etc., are full of water. Rivers are full of fish. Bengalis are happy as they eat fish, So in addition to giving relief from the heat of summer, the rainy season contributes to a great extent to the solution of food problem.

In India people enjoy the season very much. They organise picnics in this season. They go to some orchard where they get plenty of mangoes, They also arrange for milk. They take these two things there, to their hearts content, and fell strong by taking these nourish combination. children enjoy by floating paper boats and splashing water on one another. They feel fresh after a dip (bath) in rain water. Women have their own way of enjoying this season. They gather at a place and enjoy the songs or folk-lore’s, In the background of greenery while it is drizzling, their songs have a charm of their own and their happiness and joy knows no bound.
But the rainy season sometimes present a very horrible picture. At night when we hear the thundering of clouds and flashing of lightning and thick dark clouds
cover the sky, we shudder. When it comes to torrents or heavy downpour, it is so threatening that one feels as if Doom’s day has come. The floods become a common phenomena in different parts of the country. Heavy damage is caused to the crops and lives of animals and men. Houses collapse ; taking away many lives of the inmates, men women and children. Crops are destroyed. Traffic is disturbed. Telephone communication is cut off. No link is possible from one part to the other.
So the rainy season, which is a blessing by providing a great relief to the people troubled by the heat of summer sometimes is changed into a curse for some people.
