Rumor is rife on the web that Microsoft is in talks to buy eBay. Microsoft to buy eBay? Is this a joke? The software giant is considering buying online auctioneer eBay and merging it. Is this mean that Microsoft turned more attention onto eBay rather than Yahoo? Microsoft has “dramatically” changed direction here and it’s going for eBay, the strategy was completely changed,its moving toward ecommerce. Is eBay better than Yahoo? Is eBay could assist Microsoft bid for web supremacy? The online auctioneer built its reputation as a global player in ecommerce, it is a clearinghouse for some of the world's top manufacturers and retailers. What exactly this two companies got? let’s get a closer look at this two companies, Microsoft the world’s largest software company, the monopoly provider of desktop OS and browser, with a revenue of $51 billion and a market cap of $327 billion and eBay, online auctioneer, with a revenue of $ 7.6 billion and a market cap of $ 40 billion, this is a marriage of web titans, an enormous convulsion is about to take place on the web. But Microsoft buying eBay would be a stupid mistake, the two companies got different focus and business, the two occupies two different part of the web, they got vastly different cultures, plus the nightmares of integration. What exactly is Microsoft buying here? Technology? Is Microsoft really in desperate needs of eBay? Both eBay and Microsoft got good consumer brands, Microsoft for software and eBay for ecommerce, the two companies got also an all right business systems. Microsoft have just recovered from their unsuccessful attempt to buy Yahoo and once again on buying mood, the company has just decided that its about time to moved on. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that all acquisition talks with Yahoo are done, the company is no longer interested in Yahoo acquisition, for them eBay is better. Microsoft thinks that buying eBay could be an important step in an attempt to catch up Google, How? Microsoft and eBay online business are quite different, but ecommerce is an area not yet dominated by Google, here eBay and it very own PayPal are the major players. Google has already beat Microsoft on search and online advertising business, the software company thinks its find its salvation at eBay. But Microsoft has a history of trying to turn those big figures into something what we called “industry dominance” even it doesn’t have good ideas to handle those things. The eBay-Microsoft merger won’t give a leverage against internet leader Google, it would only make things confusing , worst of all, the merger might not work at all.
