PDN Gateway Explained!

With the introduction of Worldwide Web, information is just a few clicks away. The evolution of the web has influenced mobile technology. And with this, even the demand for multimedia capable 4g WiMAX networks has increased. However, rich wireless technology is relatively new and has its own challenges.

IP-based 4G networks create exciting new revenue-generating opportunities. By adapting the network selectively, these smart systems can dynamically optimize both the network and the services. They also support network functions such as ASN GW and PDN gateway.

PDN gateway function provides connectivity between the user equipment and external packet data networks. It also acts as the point of entry and exit for traffic to the user equipment. Apart from controlling IP data services, PDN gateway also does routing, allocates IP addresses, provides access for non-3GPP access networks and even enforces policy. It not only addresses service requirements but also terminates access by non-3GPP networks.
