“Younger men dating older women”, Why?

Dating an older man or woman does not mean dating one who is just a few years older than you; he/she is a man or woman who is at least ten years older than you.

Older men are seen as father figures who replace the men in your life that might have let you down. Before you start dating an older guy or woman you should think hard. Look at the disadvantages and compare them with the advantages. I’m not trying to discourage you but I’m trying to help you make the correct decision.

So why do young people date an older man or woman?
Some people do it because of curiosity. Here are a few other answers I got after asking some people who date older men or women.

- He/she is more mature and supportive of the person they are dating
Most people think it’s because of the money while others do it because they find that older men or women are more supportive and don’t usually play the games that younger guys or girls play.

- He/she more stable emotionally
The statement above is true but it is not always the case. The older man/woman might appear stable and ready to settle but it’s not the age of a person that determines that, what determines that is just the individual themselves.

- He/she is financially stable
This is because the older man or woman already has a business or because he/she completed studies a long time ago and has a good paying job.

- He knows the way to a woman’s heart
An older man has dated many women before and by experience has learnt a lot about how to treat a woman. He knows what she hates and what she likes etc. Although not all women are the same he still knows a lot about them.

Another question that comes into mind is why the older men or women choose to date people much younger than them?

- Older men believe that younger women are not as bitter and complicated as older women.
- Older women date the younger men usually because it gives them the feeling of being superior because she is in charge of everything; she’s the one with the money etc.
- Older men date younger women to run away from what they call pressures in their lives such as their wife and kids.
- Older women date younger men because their husbands tend to neglect them and their needs especially in terms of sex.
- Older men date younger women these days because it’s more like a competition. They show of their young girlfriends to see who is dating the cutest young girl etc.

The disadvantages of getting into such relationships are that;
- You will not be taken seriously. Most of these older men and women are in these relationships just for fun.
- You are at a higher risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases because this older man/woman might have had a number of sexual partners in the past or because you will not be able to ask him or her to use protection because you fear that the relationship will end.
- Can you deal with this older mans wife, ex wife or girlfriend or kids?
- You will defiantly ruin your reputation

My opinion is that you should date someone within your generation because it is easier to make them who you want them to be, your risk of getting STDs will be lowered, you will both have equal negotiating powers and you are more likely to get married if that is what you want from a relationship. Some of these relationships work though it is just a few if them.
