Why isn't Text Messaging included in Most Data Plans?

We often complain about price hikes in grocery products or even gas. But, have we ever sat back and thought about the silent price hike in text messages and cell phone plans? Service providers have been tricking customers into their trap wisely and unknowingly, charging much more than what it costs them to transmit the data included in text messages. Earlier a message which cost 10 cents has now nearly multiplied and a customer has to pay twice the amount of what he was paying earlier, say 20 cents!

It was all started by Sprint Nextel in the year 2007, which was later followed by AT&T and Verizon Wireless. And recently, much to the grievance of customers, T-Mobile has announced its text messaging hike plans, charging 20 cents per message, thus making a late entry into the grand league of network operators present in USA.

Even though it doesn’t cost much in terms of delivering the text message for a service provider, compared to other services offered by him like music downloads etc; the reason that carriers are charging so much for text messages is because of the growing popularity of texting. Even at 20cents/message people are willing to pay without any hiccups! Apart from this, customers even go for text messaging packages and unlimited plans that vary in price from $5 a month extra for 200 messages to $20 a month extra for unlimited texting on AT&T's network, for example.

So, it is often wise to compare cell phone plans and choose the right one that suits your needs.
