Indian Idol 4
Friday, 19th September, 2008, 9pm Sony TV marked the beginning of the latest season of the extremely popular and undoubtly, very original reality show, Indian Idol.
It was great to see all the past participants involved in the show alongwith the esteemed panel of judges.
The judges, as you know, included the infamous and very strict Anu Malik, the highly respected Javed Akhtar; and an introduction to two new entrants in the form of the great singing sensation, Kailash Kher and the very beautiful and lovely, Sonali Bendre.
The choice of judges is excellent this time around and I enjoyed watching them mix work with pleasure wherever they went.
While it is great to have Anu malik and Javed Akhtar back on the panel, Kailash Kher seems to bring a bit of a difference to the judges table with his humble personality and soft demeanor making the participants feel a bit more comfortable and less intimidated.
As for Sonali Bendre, her lovely face and sweet smile makes each contestant feel confident to perform to the best of their abilities.
What I did not like was the constant stressing of a female Indian Idol.
I understand that in our country people stil do not support girls in their endeavours to build a career and become successful, thereby; standing on the same platform as a man and maybe even, moving up to a higher platform.
But, having said that, it should also be kept in mind that if certain male canditates are better than the female ones; they do have a right to stay on in the show and compete.
The more the judges or any other celebrities stress on the topic of having a female Indian Idol, the more it will trigger the audience's minds in that direction and make the show unfair.
The 'aam junta' will definately vote for the female candidates if the judges or any celebrity says so, eventhough, in the true sense of the 'singing word' the male candidate would have been 100 times better.
So please, when the voting begins; vote justly, listen to the judges comments on the candidate's singing and performance abilities and not the candidates gender or good looks.
I truly hope that the best and most deserving candidate wins, girl or boy, and wish all the contestants all the very best.
And, here's a toast to the entire Indian Idol Team and the Four Knights of the Indian Idol Judging Table - Hear! Hear! And All The Best!
