YOUR FOOD BASKET DEFINED- PART 1

You should know the uses or importance and benefits of the foods that you buy or eat. After a long research I came up with this this article which is more like a summary which features over sixty different foods including spices, fruits, vegetables, nuts and their usefulness or importance to your body.

In this part of the article I will talk about mango, beans, carrots, apricots, spinach, peanuts, cucumber, oranges, coconut, turnips, leek, tomato, potato, pepper and cabbage.

1. MANGO
- Good for eyes, helps prevent heart attacks, good for hypertension and diabetes.

2. BEANS
- Help to prevent hair loss, good for hypertension, works for constipation, cholesterol and anemia.

3. CARROTS- eaten raw or cooked.
- Rich in beta- carotene, vitamin B, C, D, E and K. Has iron, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and sulphur.
- Good for eyes, skin problems, diarrhoea, excess gastric acid, and helps to prevent cancer.

4. APRICOTS
- Good for eyes, anemia, skin problems, lack of appetite, depression and nervousness.

5. SPINACH- cook for a short period of time because cooking for a long time destroys nutrients.
- Rich in beta- carotene, Vitamin C, useful fatty acids, calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium.
- Strengthens the liver, good for eyes, anemia, high cholesterol level, pregnancy, physical activity and growth.

6. PEANUTS
- Rich in protein and essential fatty acids.
- Energy giving helps with skin problems, heart problems and hypertension.

7. CUCUMBER
- Good for skin problems, constipation, gout, obesity and diabetes.

8. ORANGES
- Rich in vitamin C.
- Good for coughs and colds, gout, cancer prevention, eye problems, and constipation.

9. COCONUT- rich in minerals can be eaten fresh or dry.
- Digestive problems, dehydration and fever.

10. TURNIPS- rich in calcium.
- Good for obesity and gout.

11. LEEK
- Good for sinus, bronchitis, constipation and excess uric acid.

12. TOMATO
- Alkalizes blood, good for the immune system, arteries, and protects you from prostate cancer.

13. POTATO- energy giving carbohydrate.
- good for the stomach, heart attack, kidney problems, obesity and diabeties.

14. PEPPER
- works for stomach disorders, constipation, diabetes, obesity and prevents cancer of the digestive system.

15. CABBAGE- works best when eaten raw.
- Rich in calcium, sulphur, vitamin A and C.
- Prevents cancer, intestinal disorders and parasites, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, scurvy, boosts immune system, controls infections including skin infections and heals ulcers.

Look out for part 2. Part 2 will feature the following foods;
- Cashew nuts, lettuce, grapes, peas, peaches, bananas, walnuts, broccoli, sour sop, guava, pear, cassava, strawberry, grape fruit, beetroots etc.
