Dilemma of Twin Extremisms
The contemporary world is facing dilemma of dual extremisms that has cracked social paraphernalia of the modern generation. On one side religious fanatics want to enforce their self-styled ideas at gun point while on the other side a fat horde of vulgarity spreading activists are doing their utmost to mince moral fabric of the masses. The number of moderate people working for social reformation is perpetually shrinking.
Both kinds of extremists are at dagger drawn all over the world. This sort of conflict was seen in the federal capital of Pakistan where religious extremists were hunting down vulgarity spreading cranks and openly challenging writ of the state. Ultimately, the regime crossed the Rubicon to crackdown on religious fanatics by launching Operation Silence that resulted in massive casualties. But it is an open secret that bullets cannot bomb out deeply ingrained fanaticism. It is ironic that in the contemporary world the leaders have considered bullet operations as panacea for all evils but they have failed to realize that such radical steps can only worsen the already grim situation.
Pakistan has been hijacked by two brands of extremists since its birth. The men in the driving seat hire clergy to Islamize their every action. This provided vacuum to the religious fanatics to establish their foothold in the country. On the other hand earthiness loving lunatic fringes spared no effort to step in the shoes of their colonial white masters by following their stripped culture.
The obscenity loving western countries encourage those people who promote their cultural values and vent prejudice against Islam. Sulman Rushdie’s novels are jam-packed with offensiveness. Under the guise of freedom of expression he insulted religious sentiments of millions of Muslims. The white masters accolade him despite vehement protests by the Muslims all over the world.
Islam is a religion of harmony and holiness. It condemns both kinds of extravagances. It is against imposition of its teachings by use of force. Similarly, its philosophy discourages spread of vulgarity in the society. Thus Islam teaches its followers to lead a balanced and decent life.
