My TROPHYless Season

No Excuses. Promise.

This season started magnificently. Remember that first game against Aston Villa? That first goal of Steven Gerrard? He lived up to being Hero Captain again. Donned his Captain Fantastic cape and sent a curling ball from a free kick just when Liverpool needed it most. He won that game for us. Then we drew against Chelsea – they scored through a penalty kick from Lampy – was not a penalty call even; then the trashing of Derby- 6-0. That point on, it just went downwards. Drawing most games. Losing a few. Winning some. But that was EPL.

I want Liverpool to win the EPL. 1990 (earlier quoted 1991, now I had my Liverpool history wrong, thanks Mark) was a long time ago and was not my year. That was somebody else’s. The red should dominate England. Restore the glory days of Daglish. My Liverpool is now, the Reds that they are NOW. A little far from winning it this year but never too far to hope that it will be soon.

The premiership is a different story though. We have not found the form that will see us win week in and week out. Consistency is never our cup of tea. We are best during crunch times, superb when the game at hand is the only chance we got; we make the classics and thrill people.

These are the European nights.

The “you beauty” moment of Stevie against Olympiakos; the unbelievable lifting of the biggest cup after being 3 down against the giants – AC Milan; the recent see-saw game against Arsenal. Magnificent Nights. Liverpool basks in the spotlight of Europe.

But not tonight.

My mind worked too fast, I guess. 2008 will be the year we face Man United in the Champions League finals and we will avenge all those games we have lost to them. There will be Liverpool justice.

But No, this year is the year that the blues avenge 4 semi-finals trumping from Liverpool.

So many what ifs running through my head now. But it will not change the scoreline. It will be a blue and a red in Moscow. No Red Liverbird will fly there this time. The red devils and blue gloryhunters will fight for the cup they have always wanted. And us? We have no cup to fight for. We are trophy-less for this year.

To Paolo – the AC Milan supporter. I’m sorry, bro. Chelsea slipped through. They are good players. We may not like how they play as a team but its football. Just make sure that we get to see your team in the champions league next season. Would be a huge heartbreaker to see you lifting the EUFA cup. :D

To Richard – the Real Madrid fan. It is time to bring it on. I know I deserve it. No bragging rights for me this time. I’ll suck it up like a good loser. I lost. Liverpool lost.

To Jay – the Man United devil. Don’t give Chelsea their first CL cup. I don’t care if Ronaldo wants to practice 3-meter dives during the finals. Just win it.

To Mehul. Thanks for the support. Remember – draw/lose? I thought we will change your stars tonight. You have 3 months to shake off the jinx. I am not blaming you. ;)

To Kapil. I don’t think you finished watching the game. Maybe lasted a few minutes. Man! Kimi and Liverpool does not fit well. Never had a perfect time together with them. But since Liverpool lost, I think Kimi is well on his way to successfully defending his title. Now, everything is not lost for me then.

To Mark. It was another disappointing result. You could be writing your own blog about it now. Just calm down. Maybe next year. :D BUT this never changes what we are. We are still reds. The liverbird is in our hearts.

To Tony. Chelsea spoiled the party for us. WE don’t have a Manu – Liverpool finals. Let’s try again next season. Maybe FA Cup? I will not really pray that you reach any CL finals again soon. It’s ours and ours to take. It’s borrowed time for you. :D

To Roshan, I did not use your wishes, bro. I can’t get lucky 6x in my lifetime. I can get lucky only thrice. And my third time is not today.

To all Liverpool fans. We have been weighed. We have been tested. For tonight – we were found wanting. BUT we are the REDS. Next season – we will bring them hell.
