The Green Monster

The green monster is back again.

I am feeling envious of Arsenal - thirteen games without a lost and just 1 draw out of all the games. And they did not win the games sloppily. They had convincing wins. Their young guns dominating the game.

There were no high hopes for Arsenal at the start of the season. What with Thierry Henry leaving the club? I even watched a pre-season show. There were questions like:

Question: Will Arsenal feel Thierry Henry leaving?
Answer: No, He has not been playing that well in the last season

I would agree in some extent. There was no Thierry Henry last season. He did not make a significant impact on goal scoring. But his mere presence brings something for the club. It sends panic to defenders – opening up chances for the other players. They will feel Henry’s absence in some ways.

Thierry Henry is a good bloke. He does not underestimate opponents. He is Shyam’s favorite footballer. (I don’t know if he remembers telling me that). But he is always nice. And I am glad he chose to go to Barcelona. It would be ecstatic to see him play with Ronaldinho, MESSI, Deco and that AWFUL Gudjohnsen.

Question: Will Arsenal win a cup this season?
Answer: NO

I answered no as well. And my grin was from ear to ear. It was always nice to hear that Arsenal will struggle or struggling. I don’t hate Arsenal but I don’t like them too. The non-like started when they met Liverpool in FA cup match. Arsenal (except for Henry) and Arsene Wenger were simply blasting my club - saying that they did not deserve to win it, that they were simply lucky.

That’s football you know. When one is a football fan they simply have to understand that this will happen. We can groan and moan but it is so bad to go belittling another club. And Liverpool is not just another club. Arsene Wenger should have shown us a little respect that 2001 FA Cup.

Anyways, that is past. I can’t bring it up as well since I should understand that fans loves to groan and moan like I do. J

And where is Arsenal now? They are on top of the league table and basically already qualified to the last 16 of Champions League. Shit! Shit! Shit!

Before Henry left a club, Wenger said the guy asked him if they will start winning cups again. Wenger was acquiring young players, giving up the old ones. The club is starting to gel in but still a long way from ManU’s solidarity and familiarity as a team. Wenger said it will take some time. But they will win for sure. And so Henry left. He is not that young anymore to wait for all the youngsters to shine so he can be back there on top. Wenger stayed though the guy who was center of Arsenal’s tactics for quite some time is trying to win cups in the Spanish League.

Then this! If I am an Arsenal fan, I would be dancing for 10 weeks now. But I am a Liverpool fan and all I can do is look on and pray that maybe Fabregas or van Persie gets injured. Nah! I am not bad. Just a little cynical. They need to falter you know. So we can catch up.

Out of nowhere. Or maybe our of Arsenal’s Hell. Or maybe out of Liverpool’s heaven that I have conjured up in my head. Van Persie got injured. He won’t be playing for 6 weeks. That sucks! Only 6 weeks. Maybe it’s somewhere between Heaven and Hell in my head then.

Then for reasons I can’t explain , for sheer joy of bursting my bubbles – when I turned on the TV this morning and the scores of Champions League matches scrolled: ARSENAL 7 – SLAVIA PRAGUE 0.

Will their luck get any better than this? Prague is not a very good club. But since they won 7-0 over it, they simply proved that they are the better club.

Hay! I hate Arsenal. Yeah! I changed my mind. I definitely hate them.

But ask me on March or when the season is over if I hate them still. Maybe Liverpool’s luck will change and I may decide to go back to my usual no love-hate approach to Arsenal. But definitely – this is my green monster talking.
