We do everything for our children : good schools, great guidance system, encourage, courses, chances to explore life, love.
Choosing a good school plays the greatest role.
But after we’ve exerted our lives towards their welfare, we still miss out on one very important thing.
School is a second home they say. Ever thought about the role of the first?
The greatest role that their ‘first’ home plays is based on the philosophy that children learn through imitation/examples/conduct.
In a fit of anger when both the parents lose everything and put all their energy in proving their point, the meek, scared child stands in the corner. Even with the best education in hand, the child will emerge as a scared introvert afraid of relationships.
Schools provide learning. Home provides character, personality, values.
These are the two weights in the balance of creating an ideal being. If one goes awry, the balance is disturbed.
The child learns everything by imitation. So, before you chose to become a parent, you need to evaluate yourself. To bring up a perfect child, you have to be perfect first. You cannot expect your child to greet everyone if you yourself are cold in greeting others.
For the child, you two are the perfect examples to follow, irrespective of whether you deserve that ‘perfect’ status or not. So, the choice is yours. Not amount of directions, do’s and don’t’s will do. Only what you practice in real life will be observed and taken in.
The initial 20 years your child is spending with you are going to build him. Give him a strong foundation so that he makes great choices in his life.

I have read many true life
I have read many true life stories of severely autistic children whom the doctor or the educators had given up, but whom the parents, particularly the mother, had been able to "salvage" and bring to near normalcy through patience, love, understanding and encouragement.
The role of a supporting home can never be overstated.

Sheena, parenting is important, but
Parenting and good parenting is important for a normal, healthy and productive relationship. However, there are other factors within the home and outside environment outside parental control that may influence children. Examples set by parents do effect children greatly but don't blame yourselves if your children do not come your way.
