The Healing Effect of Body Contact: A PET CAT

Since my childhood, I have been a pet cat lover, more so than the pet dogs.

I liked the cat to creep on my chest and to listen to its gurgling sound. It's nose came near tickled my chin or cheek which made me to giggle. When, it happened to a female, I extended help upon giving birth of to three or four kittens. That was how I showed great care. When, some of her breed got sick, I felt sad. I always watched over its hiding place until I saw those kittens grew into mature cats.

From my own experience, the mother cat would not feel comfortable to have her kittens seen by us. If she would feel uneasy by the presence of the house residents, she will transfer her siblings to the most secret place in the house.

Generally, the old Filipino tradition said that it is not good to bathe the pet cat for you could invite lightning and thunder. Well, by common sense it does not come true. But in my pratice, I do wipe it with wet cloth all over the body with the sweet smell of shampoo.
As I grew as a mature person, I still do love pet cats. Among the three we have in our house are two male and one female. The female one is my most favorite. She always sleeps with me every night in my room.

My room is just a simple bedroom with a bamboo bed, and wide jealousy window. I let her in my mosquito net, sleeps on my chest or belly, or close to my side.

Every time she is on top of my body, I caress her my hands from her head, feet, neck, back, belly, and down to her tail. Both of us get energy from each other and I get a wonderful feeling of relief from stress and tensions, especially when I am in a depressed state.

Likewise, I used to talk to her like treating another being with gentle and tender touch. She answers with a "meyawh" each and everytime I utter words. It is a nice experience releasing negative energies stored in my own body.

In my own opinion, there is a hidden explanation to the healing effect when in body contact and communicating to a cat animal.
