Nobility in Professions
I was at my daughter's school this morning, when an old acquaintance happened to stop by, to leave her daughter at school, and we got into a conversation. Within that ten minute dialogue I came to understand her complaints about the teaching and medical professions.
Her opinion was that these two 'noble' professions have lost their lustre and original mission in a world of materialism, corruption and deceit.
I gave it a good, long thought before I sat down to pen this. I do not know whether I fall into the category of dedicated teachers carrying out my work with devotion and commitment, but I do agree with this friend of mine.
The private hospitals are money making ventures churning millions for those running the show. The private schools may also fall into this category depending on who is running and managing them.
Teaching and giving medical care are two professions devoted to a sacred purpose. One, to illuminate the minds of the ignorant and turn them into cultured and civilised human beings with emancipated minds, while the other, to eleviate the pain and sorrow of the sick and maimed. Here, in the private sector, there are professionals vying for better income and social status. They go through all lengths to achieve these goals by hook or by crook. In so doing, they fail to realise that they have violated the code of ethics of the two professions.
I think I have written enough as I welcome readers' views on this. Anyone.....?

shobhan, i feel, not only
shobhan, i feel, not only these 2, but all professions require a certain commitment, a certain purpose, a clarity of heart and a noble mission..when your heart is not in something, i believe, that thing never goes on for long...like you said, when the goals surpasses all these and focusses only one money then it is indeed sad... expecting money is not bad for it is required to live life comfortably...but then, God's ways are wonderous. some day the realisation will come. that is all we can hope for...
Wishing you happiness always!
