The World Football Event
I was just watching this game being played in Moscow now - Chelsea vs. Manchester United. The world is watching it and every public TV in Port of Spain, Trinidad is showing the event as I write.
Its not that I am a sporting fan. I am not. I just happen to know football better than other games and the TVs' in the bar were on when I was there.
I'm afraid there's a lot I was disappointed with.
First of all, the idea that a top class football game is a series of goal attempts with a lot of excitement is totally false.
The players spend most of their time trying ( again and again ) to get a chance to try to score a goal. Just to try to get there is the point of a lot of what they are doing.
Then there are a lot - and I mean a lot of foul ups. Players touching or bouncing each other the wrong way over and over again.
And the injuries. Several players keep getting blows that have them grasping body parts and shouting at each other ( or the referrees ).
Then, when somebody does get a chance at a goal and fails - which is most of the time - its an opportunity to show how anguished they are.
They hold their heads and bawl or reprobate somebody or sonmething like that.
So - how about just trying - and succeeding - to score goals without all the backtrap.
If thats difficult, as it seems to be, at least cut out the fouls, showtimes, and shouting - they don't score goals.
