The New Taxi Driver
Soon I will become a taxi driver. The job I have is a place where I am not being treated fairly at all.
Here I am likely to be blamed for anything at any time whether or not I am connected to the issue. I am treated as a disreputable individual even though I have about 20 years service in the industry with distinction. I get no credit for my knowledge or experience.
A friend of mine has offered me a car to drive. I pay him a small amount or rent per day and whatever I make otherwise is mine to keep.
Many taxi drivers in Trinidad operate this way. Most of them make quite a good living and some actually make money.
So I have taken him up on the offer.
By next week I should have my car and will be driving around maybe earning much more than I am now in a place where I have no respect.
Even though there is a certain drop in status I believe it will be a good move.
I will be free of harrassment and ill-treatment and will be earning money on my own.
Wish me luck.

Wishing you all the luck you need young man
Sorry for not entering your blog earlier. I got interested in your blog through your article on 'the bar'. I like the way you write. Do not feel low as a taxi driver. You are living an honest life and earning an honest living so hold your head high and walk with pride. Further one should work where one is happy and appreciated for a work done. Are you 57 years old like me? If so we are on the same wavelength.
