The Broken Transport System

Trinidad has what is best called a broken transport system. Heavy traffic problems and a lack of foresight in building new roads has led to what is, for many citizens in Trinidad & Tobago, a real day to day problem. That is - getting to and from work.
Most people who work in Trinidad now have to leave home about two hours ahead of time in order to get to work on schedule and leave work expecting to get home two or three hours later.
The terrible traffic jams that occur in Trinidad every day are usually blamed on the number of cars imported into the country but the fact is no new roads have been built in about twenty years. The most they do is widen roads or change about intersections.
Politicians are resplendent in making fancy solutions the order of the day. A new rail system, a new water taxi service linking both major cities, and ther show goes on.
I live in a suburb of Port of Spain and on any given day it takes me at least the better part of two hours to get home or less if I cool out downtown to wait until 6.30 pm when the traffic dies down.
No new roads in 20 years and the vehicle population doubles every few years. What a record ! Ask any Trinidadian about transport - they will tell you !
