Freelance writers and journalists are those people who are not bound by official duties such as stuff journalist but officially associated with news paper with their regular contribution.

There’re many big names associated with freelance writing job. And they are making good and huge name and money from this cool profession called-writing! Actually freelance writing and journalism are the second biggest source of print materials, for the news papers, after the agencies.

The Job Term: - A freelance writer or journalist may have enough freedom at their disposal but he can’t work entirely on his own terms. A system is there, which keep the time duration and deadline factor, going! Despite so much flexibility in the job a freelancer has to perform his duties accordingly with requirement of editorial department. Who generally used to assign them different job.

Earning: - Although, it’s really very difficult to earn a decent living with freelance writing, unless you’re big and better shot in this field. But whatever one makes and earns from this profession can add-up an extra income to one’s kitty. Once you’re known and well established there’s no dearth of work assignment and the money-that may flow like flood water! There are many people who apart from doing their own professional work-write in their free time-advocates, business executives, doctors and business men, all are doing it.

How to begin: -As you start writing, as a freelance writer; you first need to make contacts with editors of different newspaper. One may contact editorial board in order to figure out the subjects, issues and the categories on which they need writers.

Be expert on the subject: - This is an era of specialization. There may be plenty of simple and easy looking categories to choose from. But you shouldn’t choose those subjects on which one is not experts with. Make sure you’re choosing a subject you feel comfortable and could write better than others.

The market: - As a writer you need to know the market of your write-ups and articles. Knowing the market is not enough, though. You must know what the trend is. What readers want to read and which news paper is lacking what? Once you start contributing and editorial know you’ve this, they’d flood your mail box with lots of request. They may request you to contribute more!

House Style: - Different news papers have different house styles. So, before you send any write-ups or articles, make sure you house style matches with those.

Agency Service: - The second best option of getting your articles published is through agency. There are so many news & Feature agencies, working and sending thousand and thousand of news pieces and features to various news papers and charging commission for that service. So, if you’re a new writer and novice in this field you should not go for agency services. Agency services are for those professional writers who can’t control their marketing.
