Beaware of the "love" trap!!!
Tamil movies have just one theme. Love. They make the biggest noices about it, and simply trap hundreds of thousands of young men and women into it. There is a lot of news in the local Tamil press about many a couple that elop from their homes and get married in some temple and then seek police help, as they simply fear for their lives.
The fact is, even if there is nothing wrong in "love" as it is normally understood, only if -- and these two words are so important -- the two people involved deeply understand each other, and will surely face all the life's challenges together, they should take the extreme step of breaking away from their parents on either side, and then discover that life is not all that simple.
It is just this: unless the boy or girl or both have regular jobs or sets of skills that will stand them in good stead in their lives, they should never ever make the mistake of going ahead with marriage. Sometimes, there is physical intimacy before marriage, the boy ditches the girl when his parents start searching for a "well settled" girl and so on.
I might be Tamil Nadu-centric in the above paragraphs, but aam afraid it is common throughout India. The "love" bug has simply overtaken millions of youngsters, who go about it with a missionary zeal, just do not care to explore the other consequences, are simply arrogant when they receive the best advise and so on. Parents, teachers, and the wider society -- all have a role in educating the younger generation about the bad effects of simply going after "love", as if it is the only thing in life. Our movies have done enough damage, and the situation does seem to be out of control, even in conservative Tamil homes, where the parental control is still very much there.
Hence, while there is nothing wrong with falling in love, it becomes very dangerous when either partner does not understand life in its total perspective, is misdirected to unfortunate or undesirable consequences and so on. Let us do something about educating the younger generation.
