This Always Happens

This always happens.
Anytime I stand in a line I always get somebody in front of me to annoy or delay me with some nonsense.
Today at the restaurant where I had lunch a young and quite pretty girl in front of me ordered about 6 boxes of lunch and I had to wait until these 6 boxes were served out, one at a time before I could get my food.

Two Girls I Might Know

There is this picture in all the newspapers today in Trinidad of two young girls each sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder.
The odd thing is that they look famniliar. Just a few years ago I might have met them in any one of a half dozen places I would go to.
A co-worker in my office says she went to school with one of them.

The World Football Event

I was just watching this game being played in Moscow now - Chelsea vs. Manchester United. The world is watching it and every public TV in Port of Spain, Trinidad is showing the event as I write.
Its not that I am a sporting fan. I am not. I just happen to know football better than other games and the TVs' in the bar were on when I was there.
I'm afraid there's a lot I was disappointed with.

The Bar You Know

I've just discovered that there's an art to selecting the bar you can be comfortable with.
Not every bar is for everyone. You might like certain things about a bar. The atmosphere, decor, prices - whatever, but whether that bar is a place for you is something different.
I say this because for a long time I was uncomfortable with the places I was going to.

The Ejected Woman

Yesterday I saw a woman who had been thrown out of her house.
She was sitting on a chair on the sidewalk outside of the delapidated house from which she had been ejected.
She asked me for a cigarette and I told her about the time I ran out of money two weeks before payday with nothing to buy food with.
I told her I had survived that experience although I didn't remember how.

Traditional Holidays

Trinidad, like most former colonies, has its share of traditional holidays.
Tomorrow is Corpus Christi, a holiday inherited from the days of Spanish colonisation. When England acquired Trinidad lat ein the 18th century they signed a treaty in which they agreed to honour all the religious holidays celebrated in Trinidad.

No One Encourages You

No one encourages you. That is a norm in today's world. Even though you ask friends and those who know better everyone is willing to critise and on one encourages.
If you want to do anything at all for yourself you have to take yourself in hand and decide to do it regardless.
Its always hard and even harder if you are a weak person.
Its also extremely bad if you have to take a risk.

The New Taxi Driver

Soon I will become a taxi driver. The job I have is a place where I am not being treated fairly at all.
Here I am likely to be blamed for anything at any time whether or not I am connected to the issue. I am treated as a disreputable individual even though I have about 20 years service in the industry with distinction. I get no credit for my knowledge or experience.

Squatters Plight

Squatters do have a serious problem with their living status. Most governments or landowners believe they have the right to remove squatters anytime thats convenient for them.

Its Sometimes Like This

There was this ad in the papers today. Asking for people to write for a magazine with a telephone number and email address. So I called the number and this guy answers with a mild voice and obviously tired or overwrought.
No, he said, its anything about motivation, and, no, we don't pay, its a free magazine, you can meet me upstairs here and I'll give you a copy.

A Chance Meeting

This only happens once in a while.
I was in a gas station near where I work on Saturdays when a car pulled up with two very attractive women seated in front.
I looked at them. They looked at me. We all smiled and laughed and when I was finished with my purchase at the gas station's office I walked over to the car, poked my head into the front window and said : -

Cooking With Crabmeat

Crabmeat is one of the most sensitive and tasty meats to cook with providing you season it properly and use it the right way.
Basic seasoning but with the stronger stuff like celery, onions, salt & black pepper should be used and if you wish to add more for any reason it should be a strong and vibrant seasoning, not a mild one.

Difficult Assignments

Very frequently I get these difficult assignments at work. I usually rebel and usually I have good reason. On reflection, however, its all in the mind.
It takes just a few moments to come to terms with the unacceptable and then you realign your thinking to deal with the required effort. After that its all perfectly natural.
At the end of the exercise you chalk up the experience and walk away.

Living Where Everyone Is Different

I live in a country where everyone else is different to me. I am not a black person but everyone else here in Trinidad except for a few are of this hue.
Years ago, when Trinidad was different, I thought it would be difficult but now I've come to realise, virtually through experience, that this is definitely not so.

Dealing With The Daily Sweat

Everyday I'm out on the road, sweating in the tropical sun with all the dust and heat of downtown Port of Spain where the fastest way around is on your feet because of all the heavy traffic and poorly maintained streets.
How does one deal with this ?
I'm usually wary of going to a bar at the end of the day to socialize because I couldn't possibly have a decent body odour.

Its in the news. There's a dam with dangerous cracks near a town devastated by this week's earthquake in China where thousands of troops are desperately trying to prevent a collapse.

Political Tactics

Most bosses have a string of political tactics to get them through the day. When they are dealing with objecting staff members they also have any convenient means to use for their purpose.
One of these is sidestepping the issue. That is best done by hitting on a particular aspect of the issue where their arguement is strong and concentrating on that ignoring the other, more important aspects.

The Broken Transport System

Trinidad has what is best called a broken transport system. Heavy traffic problems and a lack of foresight in building new roads has led to what is, for many citizens in Trinidad & Tobago, a real day to day problem. That is - getting to and from work.

When Eating Is Not Good

Yesterday I tried to go without lunch. For the umpteenth time I learned again my always forgotten lesson. You cannot go without food for a whole day - at least not me.
Prices of food and consequently lunches here in Port of Spain, Trinidad have increased considerably and my salary is not big. So I tried to do without lunch to see if that would actually work as a practice.
It does not.
