Branches of Ayurveda

Ayurveda was divided into eight major branches in the classical texts for better understanding and application in specific areas in concern. However, most of the times these will be interconnected and act in coordination to each other.

Eight Basic and Major Braches of Ayurveda are:
1. Kaayachikitsa: General medicine
2. Baala Chikitsa (Koumaara bhritya): Pediatrics

Ayurveda- The Science of Life

Ayurveda is the oldest yet living holistic health tradition in the whole world. The word Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit words, ‘ayus’ meaning life and longevity, and ‘veda’ meaning knowledge or science. Thus in the name ‘Ayurveda’, we find its essential meaning and purpose – the complete knowledge of how to live daily life in harmony with nature.

Know your Prakruthi (Body type)

Prakruthi or the inherited characters of body and mind (called as body type!) is one of the basic principles of Ayurveda. Knowing the Prakruthi will help to prevent diseases pertaining to that specific Dosha (energy) or in deciding treatments for any health concerns. Usually it will be a combination of 2 or 3 energy characters.

Importance of Abhyanga (Oil application)

Ayurveda, being a holistic health system, recommends oil application to the whole body as a daily regimen. Oil application followed by exercise, dry powder scrub and warm bath/shower will enhance circulation, nourish muscles-bones, remove toxins, give good color-complexion and thus render longer and healthier life. It is good for eyes and improves muscle strength and sleep.

Can Sports Medicine Benefit from Ayurveda?

Sachin Tendulkar got operated again…..!!! Sania Mirza needs an operation….!!! Don’t worry these are old news. But it becomes important to think ‘Why?’ Sports personalities like them are just in their twenties and thirties! Why should a youth in this age group suffer from such problems? Such problems are seen usually in old age, isn’t it?
