TRUTH

TRUTH
Some can leave the truth unspoken
Oh truth is light on such
They may choose their time and season,
Nor feel it matters much.

I am not their judge, God help me!
Though I am of the crew
For whom is only truth or treason -
No choice between the two

But pity wrestles with my fury
Till, spent and dumb and dry,
I envy bees which, barbed with reason,

AUTUMN

AUTUMN
Ah royal, surely royal, I concede you.
What else this rush of homage on their part?
But all these hot salutes, these dusty honours,
I see them with a wary, brooding heart.
If multitudes of fruits come forth to greet you,
If flowers and clouds give you a king’s estate,
What is it but a justice, a fulfillment?
Why should I sadden that they shout you great?

TWILIGHT

TWILIGHT
I was driving the cows and the frogs were soothsaying,
“Woe, land and water! All, all is lost!”
It was winter full grown and my bones were black in me.
The tussocks were brittling from dew into frost.

The earth looked up at me, ears up in a stillness.
I was nine at the time and a coward by fate;
The willow-trees humped into cringing old swaggers,

SUDDEN HEAVEN

SUDDEN HEAVEN

All was as it had ever been-
The worn familiar book,
The oak beyond the hawthorn seen,
The misty woodlands’s look:

The starling perched upon the tree
With his long stress of straw-
When suddenly Heaven blazed on me,
And suddenly I saw:

Saw all as it would ever be,
In bliss too great to tell’
For ever safe, for ever free,
All bright with miracle:

Eventide Benediction

Now, in the evening hush
I wend my way,
In search of healing peace
At close of day.

Here in the forest aisles
The breezes sigh
Their message seems to tell
That God is nigh

Here in each twilight sound
His voice is heard-
In every rustling leaf
And call of bird

Then by a tranquil stream
I pause to pray
And benediction come,
To end the day.

One Flaw In Women

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer

GOD’S WORLD

GOD’S WORLD

O world, I cannot hold thee close enough!
Thy winds, thy wide grey skies!
Thy mists, that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag
And all but cry with colour! That gaunt crag
To crush! To lift the lean of that black bluff!
World, World, I cannot get thee close enough!

Long have I known a glory in it all,
But never knew I this:

CHANGE IN THE WEATHER

CHANGE IN THE WEATHER

The wind blew chanting while kneading the grass
As though it was a baker’s dough
Heralding the change in the weather
Bringing down trees and unhooking leaves

Rustling up a storm so strong
Sending mice and wren
Scuttling to their dens
Gloom sets in the noon day sky
Birds and flies flittered by
In a race against the winds

Indian Summer

Indian Summer
-Kenneth Leslie ( 1892)

A warm rain whispers; but the earth knows best
And turns a deaf ear, waiting for the snow,
The foam of bloom forgotten, the rolling crest
Of green forgotten and the fruit swelling, slow.
The shearing plow was here and cut the mold
And shouldered over the heavy rain-soaked lands,
Letting the hot breath out for the quite cold

The Atheist and the bear

An atheist was walking through the woods.
"What majestic trees"!
"What powerful rivers"!
"What beautiful animals"!
He said to himself.
As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.

GETTING RID OF HICCUPS

GETTING RID OF HICCUPS
I don’t mean the hiccups we come across in life; I am referring to the hiccups we get when our diaphragms are dry. There are many ways to overcome a hiccup, here are some of them.
• Take a deep breath and hold it as long as possible. It will help to mentally concentrate on counting slowly from one to ten.
• Slowly sip several glasses of cold water

How important is a FIRST-AID KIT

FIRST-AID KIT
When a young couple starts out in keeping house, I often wonder what would be the first things they would think of in getting to equip this house. How many would think of getting a first-aid kit? Probably no one. Being prepared with a kit I think is a good idea as you may never know when you would need something in a hurry.

I have prepared a check list as follows:
