I have always been a very observant person,but after battling with cancer, people noticed a slight change in my personality. I have become more sensitive, seeing a more profound meaning in almost every occurence, even in the most trivial thing- like the behaviour of a praying mantis in our garden. I developed a deeper insight into life with the help of a praying mantis.

I have mentioned that some well-meaning words/actions can demotivate instead of motivate, and can in fact cause despair instead of inspire the cancer patient to be well. Loving relationships greatly help,but sometimes because we are also anxious,we don't know how to make our love more proactive.

The biggest factor in a cancer patients's recovery is her desire to live longer to be with her family and friends. Her relationship with family and friends cannot be underestimated because it often dictates her emotional and psychological state. I am fortunate to have been surrounded by people whom I love, and who truly love me...but I had my share of low moments with some people.

There has been a lot of paranoia about the real cause(s) of breast cancer,and cancer in general. When I was undergoing chemotherapy, I encountered a lot of well-meaning but unsubstantiated opinions and advises on what could have possible caused my breast cancer.

For the first time in our marital life, my husband cried and begged me to agree to a modified radical mastectomy. He assured me of his love no matter what. He touched my heart, especially as he repeatedly assured me he would love me - with breasts or no breasts. And so I agreed.

My mind is racing with thoughts and feelings that flashback from the time I first consulted a breast cancer surgeon. I went to see her alone, so when she told me I needed a fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), she noticed my face and chest got red and she commented nonchalantly that I must be very nervous. (I thought to myself, but of course! How could I not be afraid?
